From Scammed To Success: One Mans Betting Journey…

“Several years ago, well before I stumbled across the Secret Betting Club I was looking for a decent tipster as time did not allow me to study form etc.. as I had for so many years before.

I had just taken voluntary redundancy to care for my partner and was looking for a way of subsidising our savings.

I trawled the internet for what seemed an age reading through tipster claim after claim. It really is difficult wading through all the hype that the tipsters put up as some of it is very well put together. The ones that claim massive returns were easy to filter out, but there are some that are very smart and do not paint such a pretty picture but still bait the hook with a decent sized worm.

I then came across a banner for a proofing site and decided that surely if this person checked the validity of a tipster’s results, then that was the way forward for me.

I had already subscribed at this point to a few services who just swallowed up my money and calmly told me where to go when I complained. So when one of these services also recommended the monitoring and validation site in an e-mail, I thought ‘happy days’.

No such luck. It became very clear that the ‘proofing’ service did not check results but instead just recommended any service that offered him a decent cut from subscription fees to paid services.

Conned out of my savings

I was conned and by Christ did I lose a hell of a lot of my savings, not to mention the crash of the banks in the middle of the night which cleaned out nearly 70% of my total saving and investments and also obliterated my private pension. Tough luck and a level of stress that almost saw my whole world collapse around my ears.

I honestly did not believe things could get any worse but the stress of all this financial woe soon took its toll on my partners health and I honestly thought she was never going to pull through.

Now I do not know if it is just my stubborn streak or the fact that I just hate to lose or simply that I was desperate and nearly flat broke but I sat down to completely re-evaluate everything that was occurring financially. Even though I was all for giving up I decided to persevere and give it one last try. I realise that to some that was the walking away point, but there was not a great deal of choice for me on that front.

Now as I had previously worked in the IT industry I had access to tools that the vast majority would never even hear of, never mind utilise and one of these tools was a sectional search engine, as used by educational and business communities. This little engine was probably the tool that turned it all around.

The power of this little engine was such that you could choose sectors to conduct searches focusing in the medical area or financial etc.. This is where I came across a posting concerning one of the tipsters I had previously subscribed to. It was a post from the SBC forum and it concerned a tipster I was following and how it was being proofed by the SBC.

I changed my search criteria again and focused on searches for the Secret Betting Club. In truth though, it sounded to me initially, like another con but desperate times call for drastic measures. I found a vast number of postings that you could not have found from the regular search engines and spent so many days reading these posting I thought my brain would explode.

Scepticism turned to interest

The simple point was that it was not long before scepticism of the SBC turned to interest. The information from the SBC Forum postings was exactly as I had experienced with the tipster that had turned me over. I was astonished at the number of comments that I found. It was just a shame the regular search engine could not gain access to the forum posts (as this was member’s only) as I might have found it sooner and avoided so much bookie heartache.

Anyway the rest is simple, I subscribed to the SBC, read a fair few more posts and even though it has not been plain sailing from the start the bookies have paid me back with interest. Now I just need to get back the rest that I lost in the crash (Nah I doubt that shall ever happen as tens of thousands is no mean feet to return with the size of my bank now ).

I suppose what I am saying is that there are more cons than pros out there and even cons claiming to help point you in the right direction. It is easy to be roped in and turned over but as long as there are legitimate and honest services out there fighting your corner you just have to be patient and hopefully things shall balance out.

So for myself a big thank you to the SBC and all involved, not to forget and thank the people who took the time to post their own comments and reviews which have for the most proven to be just as helpful in turning things around. A big thank you to the Copperhead Search Engine for finding the SBC for me and also a big ‘hope you rot in hell’ to the so called monitoring service that shall sell you crap for a cut of the subscription fee and tell you it has been proofed and must just be having a bad time.

In all things are a little rosier and I can only hope more people find their way to the right information and follow the good advice given. Hopefully this shall lead to much greener pastures. Just remember though that not every good tipster has good days, bad runs happen, but if the advice and reviews are good then the theory is that you shall come up trumps in the end.”

Just How Good Are Tom Segal And Pricewise Extra?

Anyone picking up today’s copy of the Racing Post wont failed to have noticed the big splash made on their front page after Tom Segal bagged a couple of winners yesterday for their Pricewise column.

Tom highlighted both Marcret and Absinthe who won at 13/2 and 10/3 SP, whilst he also picked out Jack Dexter for their subscription based Pricewise Extra service at 9/2 SP. (As a side-note, it’s worth noting that the 11/2 claimed by the RP on Absinthe would have likely been reduced by non-runners and Rule 4 deductions)

Naturally Tom should be pleased with himself for doing so well yesterday, but the bigger question is…just how well do his results stack up over time?

Well I want to tackle that today as since October 2009 we have been tracking every single one of the tips supplied by the Racing Post’s Pricewise Extra service in order to report back to our members.

The Pricewise Extra service allows access to the paid for tips service from the Racing Post that costs followers between £1.90 a day and £4.50 per week if paying annually to follow. Posted up at midday, it features tips from the likes of Tom Segal, Andrew Barr and others such as Eddie Fremantle & Paul Kealy on a daily basis.

Tom Segal Previously Bang Out Of Form

What the Racing Post fail to tell you is just how poor Tom’s tips through the Pricewise Extra service have been for a long time, prior to the winner yesterday.

Taking his figures at advised odds (more about how tricky these are to obtain shortly) since the start of 2011, our records show his stats as follows:

129 bets, 131 pts staked
loss to advised odds of -51 pts and a Return on Investment of -38.93%

This also includes a recent run of 33 bets which failed to yield one first placed finish, with just a placed each way effort at 12/1 stopping the losing rot.

Prior to 2011 though, Tom was red-hot with a profit of 132.2 pts from 175 bets and a 75.11% ROI.

Indeed if combining his record both pre and post 2011, our record shows that he comes out with a 26.45% Return on Investment from 303 bets so overall he is profitable. You just need to be very patient if following him in…and that’s before we discuss how tough it is to get the odds he puts forward.

How To Profit From Summer Football

There’s more to Scandinavia than Fjords, Sven and Abba – While the English leagues are winding down, some excellent football is just getting started in Sweden, Finland and Norway.

The summer timetable means that these leagues are generally less affected by bad weather compared to winter leagues. This is possibly one reason why they tend to be higher scoring, a trait which can make matches more predictable with less draws.

The Swedish Allsvenskan league is a great place to hunt for hidden gems due to the league’s volatility. Here, just one team has defended the title in 14 years, creating some juicy prices from the volatility in performance and positions.

Form Lab is a football research and analysis tool covering 20 summer leagues, an excellent resource for mining the summer league data. Here are some top tips from our summer football profit guide:

Home bankers in Norway

Norway Analysis:

There is also a fairly strong home team bias with home teams winning half their matches since 2006. Further, top-six teams have won 59% of home games against non-top-six teams since 1998. In keeping with the strong home record, non-top-six teams have a respectable record of winning 40% and losing just 36% of home games against top-six sides since 1998.

The Norwegian league is one of the highest scoring leagues in Europe with 60% of games since 1998 having at least three goals and 38% having +3.5 goals. These figures are slightly lower in recent years, but still high – 57% (over 2.5 goals) and 34% (+3.5 goals) since 2006.

The teams with consistently excellent home records to look for include Tromso, who are miles away from their nearest opposition. Their northerly position helps them get the best of weary travelers.

Since 2007, backing all Tromso in all their home games has made a profit of +13.5 pts from 74 matches (odds equivalent to 1.61).

Other strong home teams include FK Haug who won 9/11 at home last season when you exclude the top-two finishers. Only Rosenborg scored more than them at home last season and you could have made a profit of +9.9 pts from blindly backing them in all their 31 home games since 2010. Stromsgodset have had a very strong home bias over the past couple of years and last term won 11/15 at home – the best record in the league – but just 1/15 on the road! A profit of +21.9 points could have been made from their 73 home games in recent years.

The trend has continued this season, with the three highlighted teams winning 7/8 of the total home games for a combined profit of 4.1 points.

How To Win Betting On Horse Racing – For Dummies!

This week I have a confession to make that when it comes to horse racing – I must admit it, I am far from an expert on the sport of Kings.

It might be a strange thing for the Editor of the Secret Betting Club to share, but there you have it. I know enough to get by at a racecourse, but were I ever needed to discuss at length the chances of X horse or Y trainer, I would soon be stumped!

This lack of knowledge however has not stopped me making a regular income betting on horse racing, because it is my own belief (and personal experience) that as long as you follow the right racing tipsters and experts and know how to place a bet – it can be done. Finding The Right Racing Experts

The tricky part in the above statement though is finding the right tipsters in the first place – who exactly should you listen to when it comes to betting on sports you might know nothing about?

A prime example from January’s Issue was this simple yet highly effective strategy from horse racing expert Scott Armstrong (of The Sportsman Racing), which went as follows:

James Ewart is one of Scotland’s youngest and most up and coming trainers and by backing all Ewart’s runners blindly in chase races you can make a handsome profit. In the last three seasons the Borders based trainer has sent out 141 runners in chases returning 27 winners. A strike rate of 19% and profit of £32.61 to a £1 stakes. There should be some mileage in this one for some time yet.

4 Bets – 1 Big Winner At 12/1

Ever since Scott’s strategy was published on the 20th January, the results have been as follows:

1st Feb. Super Baby. Lost at 8/1 SP / 8.86 Betfair SP
28th Jan. Quicuyo. Won at 12/1 SP / 16.17 Betfair SP
26th Jan. Vosges. 2nd at 15/8 SP / 1.94 Betfair SP
21st Jan. Sa Suffit. Lost at 16/1 SP / 18.63 Betfair SP

4 runners in total and the big win on Quicoyo would have made a overall £90 profit at £10 level stakes to SP and £123 at Betfair SP (after 5% commission).

Going back for the whole of the 2011/12 chase season, James Ewart has trained 11 chase winners out of 54 with 12 seconds and 10 thirds. At level stakes SP profit that’s +14.64 pts.

The interesting aspect of this strategy is that it only works on his horses in chase races, as in hurdles races he has lost 17.01 pts in the past three seasons.

Again it all boils down to having the right expertise on hand and knowing exactly where the profit is to be made.
