Running For Muamba

Some good news to report. This Sunday (26th) I am taking part in the Bupa Great Manchester Run, Britain’s biggest 10k running event where former Bolton Wanderers star Fabrice Muamba will be the honorary starter.

Over 40,000 people are expected to take part this year, including a team of 25 (one for each year of Muamba’s life) running on behalf of his ‘Hearts and Goals’ campaign which helps place lifesaving defibrillators in communities, plus race organisers Nova have also recruited a football fan from all Premier and Football League teams to run on behalf of their clubs in a show of unity and to celebrate his recovery.

And I have been selected to run for The Royals!

It’s a great honour to be representing Reading Football Club and also helping the ‘Hearts and Goals’ campaign.

I have done the race a couple of time before and the atmosphere is always fantastic and hopefully the sight of me pounding the streets of Manchester in my Reading shirt will bring some even bigger cheers from the crowds. Well maybe not!

And after the very successful recent Reading and Chester Half Marathons I’m ready to go and hopefully can clock a good time to get a decent result for Reading too (something that has not been said very often over the past season)

So if any fellow football fans want to join in and support us runners taking part in the event for the Arrhythmia Alliance ‘Hearts and Goals’ Campaign, donations can be made by text using JustTextGiving by Vodafone.

To donate £3 for example, text FABS25 £3 to 70070 to help ensure all communities have public-access defibrillators and more people in the UK are AED and CPR trained.

The text is free to send and every penny donated goes to charity. Gift Aid can easily be added.

Or you can donate online by visiting: www.heartsandgoals.org/run-for-muamba

Many thanks for all your support.
