  • Paddy Pays Up Early Again

May 4, 2010 by Darren Hall

Paddypower have paid out again. Yes not content with nearly putting the kibosh on Chelsea winning the Premiership by paying out on them 3 weeks ago, PP has now coughed up on all Tory bets and naturally they were very understated about it all…..

    ppelection

The UK general election is over before a vote has been cast according to Paddy Power who are so sure that David Cameron’s Conservatives are home and dry that they are paying out on all bets on Cameron to be PM and the Conservatives to win the most seats.

The cheeky bookie launched their early payout in the early hours of Tuesday morning by illuminating one side of the Houses of Parliament with a picture of David Cameron and the words “WE’RE PAYING OUT”

Cameron’s strong performance in the final TV debate on Thursday saw a relentless tide of betting support for the Conservatives in the outright market, shortening the odds on the Tories winning most seats at the Election from 1/5 a week ago to just 1/16. Punters will be collecting over €100,000 from the leading bookmaker.

Paddy Power himself said ”Dave is heading for Downing Street and punters can come and collect their cash.

“If money talks then what we have seen in the last few days tells us the Conservatives are going to win the Election. The only question remaining is whether they secure enough seats for the all important majority – and the betting is starting to suggest they can.”

However all might not yet be in vain for Clegg and Brown. In 2003 Paddy Power famously paid out early on Arsenal winning the Premier League, only to see Manchester United pip them at the post.

So if Paddy Power have declared Dave the winner in Election betting the big question now is by how much will The Conservatives win?

    Who will win most Seats?
    1/16 Cons
    8/1 Lab
    25/1 Lib Dems

    Majority Betting
    4/5 Cons Majority
    10/11 Hung Parliament
    33/1 Lab Majority
    66/1 Lib Dem Majority

    Conservative Majority
    11/10 Defeat or no majority
    7/4 2-20 Seat Majority
    5/2 22-40 Seat Majority
    6/1 42-60 Seat Majority
    16/1 62-80 Seat Majority
    20/1 82-100 Seat Majority

    The Hand of Frog

November 19, 2009 by Darren Hall

With Ireland reeling from “Le Hand of God” or “The Hand of Frog” bookie Paddy Power have issued a whole host of special bets on the man who will forever be known as “cheating Thierry.”

Unfortunately for Irish fans and Justice Minister Dermot Ahern, the likelihood of justice prevailing look slim with odds of 33/1 the match gets replayed.

The man who sent his country to next summer’s World Cup with an outrageous handball in Paris last night is 125/1 to score with his hand in South Africa, 200/1 to take his new found ability to use both hands and feet and sign for a Gaelic football team in Ireland, and 2000/1 Henry links up with another handy footballer Diego Maradona to form a professional handball team.

Other Henry bets on offer include 8/11 the striker comes clean with an admission of guilt in a future autobiography, 7/2 Henry personally apologises to the people of Ireland and 100/1 that Henry’s next commercial endorsement is for Nivea hand cream.

Surely it has got to be time for some form of video ref, 21st century and all that.

Bobby, What’s the French for Schadenfreude?

Having qualified in the worst way possible will it be a case of what goes around comes around for Henry and the French? It’s 100/1 that Henry suffers a case of Schadenfreude and misses the World Cup due to a broken hand, 80/1 he is sent off for deliberate handball in the tournament and 250/1 that France themselves are knocked out of next summer’s World cup by a handball.

Paddy Power himself said: “The handball that broke the hearts of our nation has united football - even French people think we were robbed!  What’s the French for ‘ch-ch-cheat’ Thierry?

“The odds of 33/1 for a replay should probably have a zero on the end but Irish punters are seriously backing it as possibly their last hope for justice.”

    Paddy Power Irish Refund
Paddy Power also offered a small crumb of comfort to its thousands of patriotic punters last night by refunding over £110,000 to those who backed Ireland to qualify for next years Finals. The bookie also refunding a further £115,000 as part of their Money-Back Special offer on the game which promised to refund bets placed on the match if Ireland won the game in 90-minutes.

    Update….

A rush of requests from patriotic punters has promoted Ireland’s biggest bookmaker Paddy Power to reinstall Ireland in their outright betting for the 2010 World Cup.

The Boys in Green have been reinstated at odds of 1,000/1 to win next year’s tournament with Paddy Power which is based on the French Football Federation agreeing to replay last Wednesday’s controversial qualifier, Ireland beating France and qualifying for the World Cup and then going on to win it.

Over 500 bets have been placed with Paddy Power on a replay taking place forcing the bookie to slash their odds from 66/1 to 12/1 with a potential payout in excess of €25,000 should the dream replay take place.

Paddy Power said “Punters still believe that miracles can happen.  Not only are they backing the replay but now they’re getting stuck into Ireland to win the World Cup.  With belief and support like this maybe, just maybe, miracles can happen. C’mon Ireland!”

Benitez Betting All The Rage For Punters

October 21, 2009 by Darren Hall

Life’s A Beach for Rafa Benitez with punters responding to Liverpool’s worst run of form in 22 years with a wide variety of betting requests speculating on the manager’s demise.

Responding to the range of requests Paddy Power are offering 10/1 that Liverpool’s crunch game against arch rivals Manchester United on Sunday is Rafa’s last game in charge of the Anfield outfit. Liverpool are also now just 4/11 to fail to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League and 11/8 not to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season. Benitez himself is odds on not to survive the season at 8/11.

Meanwhile Benitez is the name being backed in Paddy Power’s Sack Race having come in from 18/1 prior to the weekend loss to Sunderland.

Paddy Power said: “Rafa being backed into 3/1 from 18/1 to be the next manager to go may not suggest he’s definitely on his way but it certainly reflects the immense pressure he is under with fans now widely speculating on his demise across many different markets.”

    Next Manager

Punters are even revisiting the market on next Liverpool manager with former Kop king Kenny Dalglish the 13/5 favourite ahead of Jose Mourinho at 4/1. Jurgen Klinsmann, who just happened to be in the Sky Sports studio commenting on Liverpool’s loss to Lyons last night, is 9/1.

    Liverpool Lengthen for Sunday Showdown

Things could yet get worse for Rafa with the visit of champions Man Utd this weekend. Liverpool are 7/4 from 8/5 to win the game, one of the biggest odds seen on a Liverpool home win, whilst an old name let go by Benitez could yet come back to haunt him. If Michael Owen - returning to Anfield in United colours for the first time - scores the last goal of the game Paddy Power will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on the match.

Paddy Pays Out on Tiger, doh!

August 17, 2009 by Darren Hall

Bungling bookie Paddy Power was left reeling on Sunday night after their £1.25m early payout on Tiger Woods to win the USPGA spectacularly backfired when the world number one was unable to see off the challenge of Korean player Y.E. Yang at Hazeltine National Golf Club.

Paddy Power, famous for their early payouts, took the unprecedented step of paying out over £1.25m to backers of Tiger Woods before the world number one teed off for round three of the USPGA on Saturday afternoon.

At that time of Tiger was four shots clear at the top of the leader board and was the bookies red-hot 1/5 favourite to win the final Major of the year. Unfortunately for Paddy Power, Tiger failed to produce his trademark magic in the final two rounds resulting in the bookies record breaking seven-figure cock-up, the biggest ever mistake of its kind.

Paddy Power said “It takes a special kind of dimwit to turn what should have been our best ever golf result into our worst. Paddy Power punters are obviously the big winners here and have made like bandits getting paid out on Tiger as a winner. Our only saving grace is that Harrington didn’t do the business, thank God!”

Y.E. Yang was available at odds of 150/1 with Paddy Power at the start of the tournament and at 16/1 before the final round.

Paddy Power Refund on Chelsea after Champions League Farce

May 7, 2009 by Darren Hall

Reacting to the astonishing refereeing in last night’s Champions League semi-final, top bookie Paddy power has not wasted no time pledging to refund bets placed on Chelsea to win and to qualify for the Champions League final.

Chelsea, who were on course for a Champions League final encounter with Manchester United, were seemingly denied at least four penalty appeals and then lost out after a 93rd minute winning strike from Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta.

Paddy Power said “The refereeing in the match was disgraceful and we’re not going to let our punters suffer because of that nonsense. Anyone who backed Chelsea to win in 90 minutes or to qualify for the Champions League final will get their money back”

One worrying footnote to all this, is there has been a major outbreak of Swine Flu in West London this morning, as 40000 Chelsea fans woke up feeling Pig Sick!
