Trading Preview

Italy stunned one of Europe’s heavyweights in Spain and now bump into the toughest of them all. The only saving grace is that they have probably the best record against Germany than any other team so they will not go into the match with any self-doubt. This Italian side lacks the quality of past great Italian teams but they have a great team spirit and are a tight group. The Germans have done what German sides do, laboured a little in the group stages before destroying Slovakia and as usual they are improving with each game.

The two have met regularly over the years, most recently in these championships in 2012 where Italy won 2-1 in the semi-final. The meeting before that was in the 2006 World Cup where Italy were again successful by 2-0 after extra time. They have met 8 times in competitive matches and Italy have won 4 with 4 drawn so is this Germany’s time?

My major doubt is that Muller doesn’t seem to be firing and he is just the sort of player to upset the Italians. I can see this game frustrating the Germans which is just the way the Italians will have it planned and either hit them on the break or wear them down for extra time and penalties. Italy also have a problem when it comes to an out and out goalscorer, Pelle is not international class but does a job so it will be down to Eder and Insigne to come to the fore. I cannot see an end to end game and a single strike per side appeals. Italy have only conceded once, a late goal for Ireland and there must also be a chance that any goals will come from set pieces or corners if the play becomes compressed.

We could do our usual bet here, Lay Over 2.5 goals and trade out at 25 minutes and we could also back 1-1 on the correct score market with a view to trading out at around 80 minutes if the game is 1-1 at the time. If you are comfortable doing both then that is fine, for those just wanting one trade, I think the 1-1 correct score trade is the best value.

For first goalscorer bets consider some of the bigger priced players from set pieces, Hummels at 33/1 and Bonucci at 50/1 for a bit of fun may pay dividends.
