How Close Was That?

COLOSSUS BETS, home of the £10,000,000 Colossus and the world’s biggest football and sports jackpots, saw one player hit the proverbial crossbar in their £1,000,000 HDA15 football jackpot this evening.

The last surviving player in the weekend’s pool, who placed the bet through Betfair, just needed Manchester City to beat Roma in the UEFA Champions League fixture earlier this evening to be the sole winner.

After a Stoke win at home to Newcastle on Monday night put the jackpot within reach, the ticket had a Cash-In offer of over £320,000 and the armchair experts on Twitter were out in force braying for the player to take a six-figure sum off the table. The player decided however to Cash-In just 10% of the ticket, banking £32,000 before the City match kicked-off, through Colossus Bets’ unique Fractional Cash-In feature.

Despite taking an early lead City were then held to a 1-1 stalemate thanks to a brilliant Roma equaliser from the evergreen Francesco Totti. Having resisted a Cash-In offer of £241,000 at half-time, a City win would have netted the player a further £450,000 from the 90% of the ticket which they had bravely retained, with the prospect of landing another £450,000 if correctly predicting the outcome of a single HDA15 ‘bonus leg’ match next weekend.

Bernard Marantelli, Colossus Bets founder and CEO said: “We are a little bit gutted for the Betfair customer who was so close to becoming the first player to take down our HDA15 since we launched the bet at the start of the season.”

“Having Cashed-In 10% of the ticket the player at least walks away with £32,000 – not quite the life-changing seven figure sum it could have been, but not bad from a losing bet. Our HDA15 always has a guaranteed minimum prize fund of £1,000,000 and that is on offer this weekend to anyone who can go one better than our Betfair player.”

The winning player spent a total of £4,374 on the ticket.

The £1,000,000 HDA15 is a weekly 15-leg pool bet with a Home-Draw-Away format comprising a minimum £500,000 win fund and a minimum £500,000 bonus – both numbers net of deductions. Any winners of the win fund will have a free pick on the outcome of one further football match the following week, to try and land the £500,000 bonus.

A full unit costs players just £2, but like all Colossus pools, the HDA15 can be played for as little as 20p (which buys a 0.1 unit and plays for a proportional £100,000).

The next £1,000,000 HDA15 kicks off this Saturday with a selection of the weekend’s Premier League fixtures and is available on www.colossusbets.com on both Desktop/Web as well as a customized smartphone and tablet experience on Mobile Web.
